Devil 4, Red

“She walked in slow, sultry. Her ocean of overwhelming power and calm” (Mums) So she bites into me, even when I want to be left alone! Now am infected. I am a blood sucking vampire unlike her. Red is no longer a colour to me. Now it’s a meaning! And it’s the only meaning I thirst for. Because now my life has become a world of black and red. I can now track my prey for miles, even in the dead of the night. I can feel their heart beat without even seeing them. And all I can think about is the taste of blood. The night I slept with the devil for the first time, she infected me. She left trace amounts of saliva in my blood that turned me into a vampire! She told me she had never done it before, so she wasn’t sure if I might live through it. She told me she did it because she wanted to have me forever! Now all I can think about is blood. The days after I made love with the devil I attacked my first victim. A 22 year old girl that was looking at me funny.  You see my eyes have changed too. Looking into my eyes for too long and you’ll be memorised. It was in the middle of the day, on the train so I lured her into my mind and I started draining her blood through telekinesis. And I think she was in her period so it was easy to drain her blood through thin air. It was a 10 minute ride but I was done with her in 3mins. She stood up to get off the train on her next stop and even she didn’t know what had just happened. All she felt was light headed and very very high! And from the taste of her blood I could see everything she was and will be. I could see her greatest sadness and her greatest sacrifice. I saw her cry and clap. I saw her serious and having sex. I saw everything about her past, present and future and all in the red that runs through her veins. So red is no longer a colour to me, like other humans. Red is a meaning because now I am no longer living. I am dead. I am a vampire!

The devil 3, Beholder.

“She clings to me, even when I want to be left alone”. (Kendrick Lamar) But in a world of gays and lesbians, cheating men are glorified! I am here to speak for the devil! So the devil whispers to me about the fall of a 1/3 of the world’s stars. She tells me about the revolt in heaven. She tells me how she was created most beautiful among all angels. She tells me about how she was made from sapphire, and all the precious metals in heaven and earth (garden of Eden). She tells me how she was made leader of the choir because her voice could echo through the ages. She tells me about how the power she had intoxicated her. She could make love with any male angel she wanted. She could make love to all the most beautiful angels in heaven, oh so she thought! God was the most beautiful in heaven. Always burning with a holy fire that could even set the sun on fire but she, the devil could never have Him! You see He was GOD! He could create life with his own hands so he didn’t need sex. So she got jealous! She thought to herself, “if I cannot have Him (God) then I will be Him”. “After all I am the most beautiful among all the angels”! So she started to convince all the angels she could. She convinced a 1/3 rd of the angels she could apart from Jesus! You see Jesus was a male to. The second most beautiful angel to God. Jesus was an angel of war! A warrior, so he had a body to die for. He had biceps, abs, thighs and long hair that could even set a fire on fire. He was beautiful! But Jesus was not as beautiful as God! She had 1/3 of all the most beautiful angels in heaven apart from God, so she figured if she could have God then Jesus wouldn’t matter. But God just like Jesus refused to be had and that’s where the revolt started. 1/3rd of all the most beautiful angels that had been with her and angel Lucifer revolted against the uglier angels and lost. And they lost because they had the most beautiful and powerful angels in heaven in their corner. Jesus, Michael, and Gabriel!

DEVIL 2- HORNY

I think she loves me. And I love her too. But not in the ways most people do. I’ll never leave you she says to me. And I’ll never cheat on her too. She says she “perverted sex”. And that ‘sex’ and ‘she’ have two letters in common for a reason. She sneaks into my bedroom of dreams. Tells me she wants to give me a doctorate in sex. She lifts her red dress up and she drops her wings. She is horny, literally!

But I am scared because for the first time in my life I don’t know what to do. I have had countless women in my life. Small, fat, white, black never have I ever had a girl on fire. She walks over to me as I sleep and this time she is not going to whisper. She is going to show me the secrets of sex. She said in hell people have sex all the time. And that its hells burning flames that make demons so horny! She told me STDS are not sexually transmitted diseases. They are actually sexually transmitted demons. And these demons manifest in people like cold sores or herpes. She told me even AIDS is actually (An Inside Demon Syndrome) and that HIV is a demon that was once human. A (Human Immune Viral Demon). The devil tells me all the secrets of the universe. Even in my lectures. She does a voice over and I watch my lecturers with demon subtitles. She promised to never leave me. Even in the toilet as I take a crap. She tells me the secrets of the digestive system.

Now she is with me in my bedroom. And she wants us to have a demon baby. She knows I used to be a champion swimmer when I was younger. Now she wants to have a baby that will swim like a demon. A baby that will be the world’s next hope as the most prolific swimmer that ever lived. Forget about Michael Phelps or Ian Thorpe. So she turns me over as I sleep and puts me in her mouth. I get harder in her mouth as I sleep then she keeps sucking me till I get bigger. Then she licks the part that’s below my belly-button, just to get me harder, and then moves to my nipples. Then she kisses my neck as I sleep and she bites into my skin. Like a Vampire! She wants me inside her. She wants my blood in her mouth. Her fangs grow longer as they penetrate my skin then she keeps sucking as my blood rushes into her mouth. Am horny so my heart beat is up! Her eyes change from black to ‘fire red’ then she whispers to me that, “I TASTE GOOD”!

The devil

I know everything about God and his two friends. He told me everything I needed to know about Him in His book. Some even call it holy! He told me his deepest darkest secrets in His book. And it so happens I took the time to read it. I read it every two hours of my life for months. I summarized his secrets. I re-read His secrets. I memorized some and now I even know the Lord’s Prayer by heart!

It’s the devil I do not know. The devil has no holy book. And she has wanted me since I was a small boy. They would rush me to Sunday school just to teach me His secrets. They told me to ignore her when she came to me in my dreams. They called them nightmares. When I was a kid I would wake up in the middle of the night and run to my parents’ bedroom. I was running from my dreams. They called them bad dreams. They called them nightmares. So my parents when I was a kid stopped me from watching horror movies. “They will give you nightmares”, my parents would say.

Until the day I finished reading Gods book of secrets. Then her voice became louder in my ears. I couldn’t help but stop to hear her screams now that I had read all His secrets. Then I started to listen to the devil for in them lay the dark secrets of the universe. And I found her secrets so interesting because God’s secrets I knew. They have been teaching me His hymns since Sunday school. So now I listen and learn what I never knew. Those nightmares have become whispers. The horrors I now love for in them lay more whispers.

Now am even learning hells hymns. And I swear she sings like an angel. She’s even teaching how to sing because in those songs lay dark secret poems. I love poetry and I love learning new things so when I hear her voice, I feel no pain. Please, may she never leave me alone for now she is my best-friend in this lonely world of Instagram, twitter, WhatsApp and Facebook. “Tell me more of those dark-secrets”, I tell her, “even the ones you keep learning”, because I think for the first time in her life she finally has a man who is willing to listen. And for the first time in my life, I am learning something new. Whisper to me even when am talking to some else. Whisper to me in my dreams, at a party, in the cinema or at a rock concert, with 50,000people around me, because I want to know all the secrets of the black hole.

Lehman brothers: The bank that made the world go bust!

Make money and don’t tell anyone must have been the core value of the Lehman brothers. They say if one is to learn something they should pick a leaf. I am going to pick a tree from strategic management and say, core values of a company are designed not to change regardless of the circumstances. I can honestly say the true core values for the Lehman brothers never changed. As one of the oldest investment firms on Wall Street the Lehman brothers stayed true to their “core values”, love money, bring in junk loan mortgages, and become a leader of the housing industry at all costs!

A house is the biggest purchase of one’s life. A home on the other hand is where someone can be happy.

Image result for A home on the other hand is where someone can be happy.

The Lehman brothers were not only selling houses. They were selling homes, somewhere where people could have birthday parties. They were selling the American dream! But when someone would sign a mortgage agreement, it had an interest rate that would look attractive at first but get higher with time. Thus making someone’s mortgage payments higher with time. Lehman were in business of approving fraud! Loans with fake company ids or the same company id for different loans. Richard Fauld, then CEO of the Lehman brothers was the longest serving executive on Wall Street. Under his reign the company was known for giving record breaking bonuses and salaries to its employees. He had a reputation for being aggressive. He, Richard went by the name, “the gorilla”! He was so famous on Wall Street that he even had his own elevator in the building where the company was located.

Lehman became known for using loop-holes in the law to cover themselves. They wanted more money than the stakeholders were willing to approve. They didn’t care about their employees (mortgage brokers) credibility. Regular sexual harassment was a culture and dirty business executives were hired to do the dirty work. They wanted to see people afraid of them. Their total assets were valued at 1.5trillion while their notional assets were valued at 5 trillion. The Lehman brothers were doing well! Oh so we thought. But a lack of clear communication channels lead to the tipping point. They were foreclosures across the US, and many people’s lives fell apart. And how did the Lehman brothers manage to do all this for so long? Well one of the ways they would do it is that they would repay their loans right before their public reporting of their financial position then a few days after the reporting, they would borrow it back. They would hide compensations and making their financial books look better than they really were. The senior vice president of Lehman brothers, Mathew Lee was fired six months before the company declared itself bankrupt. No one thought the Lehman brothers would ever go bust! The company president, Richard Fuld was living a very lavish lifestyle and denied misleading investors. He rather blamed the government for pushing non-qualified loans. He called it the perfect storm.

So, the Securities and Exchange Commission either knew all this but didn’t do anything or they just didn’t know what they were looking at. The challenge is every new president brings in new people who haven’t worked in the area for a long time. For example Obama brought in a lawyer to investigate Lehman brothers but he also so happened to have been working for another company that had interests in the Lehman brothers and law and behold no charges were made against the Lehman brothers. People lost their houses and people went homeless.

Richard Fauld was never charged and since the financial collapse bonuses at Wall Street have soared to more than 31 billion dollars. After the election of a new US president, Donald Trump discontinued the investigation and established an act that protects consumers form abusive lending practices. An act designed to reduce beaurocracy in small banks and unleash America’s economic potential, “as it was in the past”!

Henri Fayol talked about the 14 principles of management in his book. I am going to talk about six of the principles of management the Lehman brothers used in the following ways:

  1. Division of work. At Lehman the real estate brokers were responsible for bringing in mortgage loan clients. The brokers had to meet their quota and they brought in mortgage loan consumers at all costs including junk loans just to meet their quotas.
  2. Authority and responsibility: Personal integrity of the manager is the safe guard against the abuse of authority. But at Lehman, dirty managers were hired to do the dirty work so there was no personal integrity from top to bottom. Managers and other people in authority were known for all kinds of fraudulent activities including sexual harassment of female employees at the work place.
  3. Discipline: According to Mullins, discipline is, in essence, the outward mark of respect for agreements between the organisation and its members. (2016) Lehman had no respect for neither their employees nor their customers because it sold the customers loans that were not of any use to them without the consideration of the credibility of its employees.
  4. Unity of command. The Lehman brothers I must say did very well in this principle. The management was united in its endeavour to make fake profits at all costs and pay themselves abnormal bonuses.
  5. Unity of direction: Lehman also had a unity of direction. The only difference is that that direction was never in the best interest of the consumers. Their best interest was always in the making of their top level managers richer. Whether the middle level managers and the other lower level employees knew and to what extent is a question for a another research paper.
  6. Subordination of individual interest to general interest. The interest of the Lehman brothers definitely dominated individual or group interests.

Conclusion

Should we change management, with the Lehman brothers as an example I think we should, but I also think we shouldn’t fire all managers. Former senior vice president of the Lehman brothers is living proof that not all managers are useless. He, Mathew Lee stood up for his own personal values by being a part of the whistle-blowers of Lehman brothers and by standing up so much for his own personal values that he put his own career on the line. Ultimately I think it comes down to the individual to first develop his own personal values before ever entering or accepting a management position because once that’s done, no circumstances, good or worse will ever change them( personal values).

My development as a leader!

Abstract.

My name is Galiwango Nicholus John. But sometimes I wish my name was ‘Rosa Parks’. Rosa parks was a 42 year old woman in 1955. In a racially segregated Montgomery, Alabama that through her simple act of refusing to move to the back of the bus catalysed the civil rights movement in America. But unfortunately I am a man. A black man in a racially integrated Britain. Sometimes I stay up all night and wonder if I’ll ever bring on a change like Rosa Parks did. A lasting change like Rosa Parks that she led from behind. Heterosexual monogamy with a doctorate in philosophy is my only core value. But it’s my vision of Rosa Parks that I struggle with because am in a world that is not only already integrated but is saturated with technology. A world where people are now paying more and more attention to Instagram, whatsapp and facebook and less and less on real social change. Real social change like environmental conservation or eradication of diseases and poverty. Social change has willingly gone to the back of the bus while technology is taking a front seat in this world. Where real human connection doesn’t matter if you have one million followers on twitter. Rosa Parks is unlike me because she was in a different world than I am in now. She was in a segregated world of a different kind.

Introduction.

Any leader in 2019 is a leader like me because we are facing the same challenges today and like all challenges they can either be overcome or not. To overcome these challenges I have chosen the theory of power and influence by well known, “social psychologists John. R.P. French and Bertram Raven (1959)”. (Janzen 2018). According to French and Raven there are five types of power as seen in the diagram below 😦 Mullins 2016: 330)

Source: French and Raven (1968)

Legitimate power

Legitimate power is power that comes from one’s organizational role or position (Martin 2018). For example, my seminar lecturer Dr Ian King assigned each member of our group a week to be a leader and during that when each member was a leader they had the power to call for a group meeting.

Reward power

Reward power is the ability to give a reward.  The reward granted can be either tangible or intangible (Martin 2018).  For example during my week as a leader I gave my group members an intangible reward of praise where I thanked them for all their hard work. An example of tangible reward would be like a pay raise in an organisation.

Coercive power

This type of power usually involves a person in power punishing a subordinate. Coercive power typically works through one person being in a position of power over another person (Martin 2018). For example during my days as a banking officer in my home country our branch manager once embarrassed another banking officer by making her come in front of the whole branch staff during a staff meeting and explain to us all something embarrassing she had done to a customer. She, the banking officer cried in front of all of us at the branch while she was explaining the embarrassing incident.

Expert power

This power usually comes from the ability to influence others basing on knowledge and skill. Any member of an organization who has specialized knowledge or skill may have expert power (Martin, 2018). For example ‘Rosa Parks had expert power in 1955 through her strong friendship ties and weak friendship ties she had attained in the black community of Albama. She was a part of so many groups in her black community that included the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People), Methodist church group, she used to volunteer at her local shelter, botanical club and a group of women who used to knit blankets for a local hospital. So when she was arrested in 1955 those strong and weak friendship ties she had throughout the black community led to one of the first of the many boycotts of the civil rights movement. The bus boycott.

Referent power

This type of power is the ability for the leader to influence the follower (Martin, 2018). This usually stems from a person’s personal characteristics like charisma. For example Martin Luther King, another important and noble peace prize winner of the civil rights movement. Martin Luther king inspired a whole nation with his charismatic speech of ‘I HAVE A DREAM’.

Conclusion

Of the five types of power Charisma and Expert power are my favourite. And even if future leaders might need a combination of all, across breed between Martin Luther King and Rosa parks I think would produce the perfect leader. If I was the cross breed child of King and Rosa I would refuse for real social change like environmental conservation or eradication of diseases and poverty to take the back seat for a world where people are now paying more and more attention to Instagram, whatsapp and facebook. I would have the expert power (strong and weak friendship ties) and THE DREAM to ensure the recycling of waste materials actually works instead of first world countries dumping their waste in developing countries like Malaysia. I would be the expert Bill Gates hires to solve the energy crisis by discovering new and clean renewable energy sources and I would advocate for global heterosexual marriages where spouses never cheat on each other to completely eradicate HIV.

Brexit won’t be good for Easyjet.

EasyJet is a low cost airline based in the UK. (Easyjet n.d) Easy jets cooperate core values are, “Safety: We never compromise on safety, Simplicity: We cut out the things that don’t matter to keep us lean and make it easy, One team: Together we’ll always find a way, Integrity: We stand by our word and do what we say, Passion: We have a passion for our customers, our people and the work we do, Pioneering: We challenge to find new ways to make travel easy and affordable”.(Easyjet n.d) I have chosen Easyjet to examine what Brexit would mean to Easyjet because, Easyjet has one of the strongest credit ratings in the world for an airline and employs up to about 10,000people.(Easyjet n.d)

A formal organisation has been defined by Scheinas, the planned coordination of the activities of a number of people for the achievement of some common, explicit purpose or goal, through division of labour and function, and through a hierarchy of authority and responsibility. (Mullins 2016: 80) Easyjet is a good example of a formal organisation with its organisational chart as shown below,

Source: (Easyjet, 2015)

Easyjet after Brexit is going to have to re-evaluate its European routes in light of the changed European regulations because the UK will no longer be part of the European Union free trade zone. Easyjet following the Brexit vote might lead to a fall in its share price by 20 percent. (World Finance n.d)

Mullins (2016: 354) talks about Fayol’s 14 principles of management. Using 6 of the principles I am going to critically evaluate the impact Brexit is having on it.

  1. Division of work: Brexit is going to force easyjet to try and figre out a way in which they can have more flights and faster routes in line with the new EU regulations they be abiding by with the same 10,000 employees that are currently working for easy jet.
  2. Authority and responsibility: Easyjet will nolonger abide by the rules and regulations if the European Union but they as an airline company will have the responsibility of changing their own company regulations accordingly. The manager will have the responsibility to make sure these new company rules and regulations are updated and abided by since self-governance is not one of the rules of easyjet.
  3. Discipline: Easyjet operates on discipline to ensure that flights take off on time, there are no delays for the customers and bookings are made easy and fast for customers. Easyjet will have to make sure Brexit does not affect them in terms of delayed flights.
  4. Unity of direction: Easyjet must make sure their organisational chart remains the same as the chart above and that marketing, information technology, human resources, customer service and production are all receiving their orders from one CEO. If the production, human resources and the rest are receiving orders from more than one superior, Brexit will only cause more commotion/conflicts at easyjet.
  5. Unity of direction: Easyjet despite Brexit should keep giving customers flights at a good price, make booking of flights even easier, reduce on the transit routes and make flights more safe and comfortable.
  6. Subordination of individual interest to general interests: Easyjet should make sure they inspire their employees to see their company vision as their own integrating the individual/employees of EasyJet’s desire to also travel and go on holiday with their families. Just like Henry Ford did with the ford where he made sure he made cars that even the employees of ford could buy. If EasyJet manages to make the company vision and mission one with their employees’ individual mission and vision in life then EasyJet will be one of the most successful companies in the world despite Brexit. Because the employees that will be working for EasyJet will be happy employees and no better worker is better than a happy worker.

The root of the identified problem caused by Brexit is EasyJet will have to recalculate their ticket fares taking into account the new cost of visas for UK citizens who will no longer be part of the EU. (World Finance n.d)  Easyjet can benefit from the overcoming of this challenge by making air ticket fares seem even cheaper because customers will not know it’s because they are considering their new visa costs and attract more customers. Reduction of air ticket will attract more customers and eventually increase their bottom-line.

There are various actions I suggest EasyJet can do to overcome the challenges of brexit. Mullins (2016: 356) talks about the Drucker’s 3 tasks of a manager. These are the roles the manager will play in order to overcome the resistance to change and they include:

  1. Integrating the purpose and mission of EasyJet into the collective purpose of the employees of EasyJet which is to enjoy life. The manager can do this by first ensuring the employees of easy jet can afford the tickets of easy jet and even get discounts on flights or even free flights for employees of easy jet where possible. Every/most individuals have the desire of enjoying life and a big part of enjoying life is traveling and seeing new places.
  2. The managers of EasyJet can reward the best employees with fully paid vacations for them and their families to encourage workers to be productive and achieve organisational goals.
  3. Managers can encourage employees to take 20percent of their workhours to work on personal projects from which employees will get better fulfilment from work and solve some of the social problems facing society including projects that are dealing with clean energy alternatives for their airplanes, charity works that solve poverty e.t.c. Managers can also encourage former criminals to apply for work at EasyJet as part of their social responsibilities as an organisation. For example greyston launched a breakthrough model to help people facing barriers to employment. Greyston now bakes for Ben and Jerrys ice-cream. (Greyston 2019) Greyston is a 20million dollar company. (Chhabra 2019)

I have the knowledge that has now let me explain what management is going to mean for EasyJet after brexit as they prepare for brexit. The range of factors a manager will have to consider to adapt his/her style to ensure EasyJet makes more profits especially after brexit are many and if I was the manager of EasyJet my first job would be to go on vacation with all 10,000employees of EasyJet. So if I was a manager of EasyJet, brexit wouldnot be good for EasyJet, it would be great!
